Whitford Forest Archers

The whitford Forest Archery Club was set 15-20 yrs ago by Trevor Irvine, a local resident at that time and world class archer. He is now residing in Northland, but still a lifetime member of the club.

The club initally was at Te Puru Park, but soon moved into the Whitford Forest where it has been for at least 15 yrs now. It is a field archery club, which means that you walk around a course of targets set amongst the trees, shooting arrows at each, scoring them, then moving on to the next target, in a similar vein to a golf course. We have course of 14 targets.

Archery is a family sport, anyone can do it young & old, male or female. The club has several father/son, mother/son combinations as members.

Our club days are Sundays, we meet at 9 am at the forest entrance on the Whitford/Maraetai Rd and the club itself is a short drive into the forest. Club members also take part in tournament shoots as they occur each year. We in fact have a couple of current club members with world titles to their name.

We also have members that are certified coaches and can help beginners in learning to shoot. We have a small number of bows that people can hire to try if they don't have their own.

If people want to come along to a club day to have a go, the cost is $5 for non-club members to shoot, and we charge $10 if you use the club equipment.
